Elderly woman trapped in bath with no help for three days
An elderly woman has been rescued by police after getting stuck in the bath for three days.
A concerned neighbour in Avely, Essex, reported that the woman in her 80s had failed to open the door for post and kept her curtains closed, which was ‘out of character’ for her.
PC Tom Matthews of Essex Police said: ‘The woman sadly has no nearby family or friends that are able to make regular visits to check on her.
‘When we found the woman she told us that she’d been trapped in the bath for up to three days.’
The officers went to the flat, just off Purfleet Road, on Wednesday after receiving a call from the neighbour around 2pm.
PC Matthews and student officer Tom Currin said they forced entry to the property in order to help the woman.
She was quickly assessed and taken to hospital – her condition is unknown.
PC Matthews continued: ‘This incident is an example on why it’s essential to check on your elderly and vulnerable neighbours.
‘In this case a neighbour spotted a few minor things that were out of character and she rightly called for help.’
He also thanked the neighbour, by adding: ‘We would like to praise her for taking the time to consider the welfare of an elderly person within her community.’
