Teenager hands in wallet with £1,000 inside – would you have done the same?
An honest schoolgirl has been lavished with praise for handing in a wallet which had £1,000 inside.
Caitlin Jeffery, 13, found the wallet lying in the road which had been dropped by blind and deaf pensioner Dennis Clatworthy in Exeter.
The schoolgirl handed the wallet into the nearest shop and the hunt began for the owner, the only clue was a 30-year-old picture of man.
However, not everyone is as honest as Caitlin, five people tried to claim the wallet as their own before the real owner 80-year-old Dennis was located.
He said: ‘For a 13-year-old to have done what she did is brilliant. I know people who would not have handed it in. I had a tear in my eye when I got it back. I am so grateful to Caitlin.
‘Teenagers get a hard time but I cannot thank her enough.’
His son Mark, 57, said: ‘My dad sent Caitlin a £50 reward. She is saving up and doing jobs to raise £2,000 so she can go on a school trip to Malawi.
‘Her parents must be very proud of her. My dad is 80 and is almost totally blind and deaf. The photo in it is of my dad – it’s about 25-30 years old. He must be one of the few people who carries a photo of himself in his wallet.’
Caitlin, of Exeter, said: ‘I just saw the wallet lying in the road. There was a lot of money in it and just a photo of a man. I was really happy Dennis got it all back.’
Last month a teenager in the USwas spectacularly rewarded for finding the owner of a wallet he found.
17-year-old Tristin Budzyn-Baker stumbled across Thor actor Chris Hemsworth’s wallet in Los Angeles.
He contacted the actor and the pair appeared on the Ellen show, where the actor gave Tristin all the money in the wallet and then some on top.
Then Ellen DeGeneres handed him a cheque for $10,000 for his education.
