Donald Trump has ordered that his Mexican border is built see-through so guards can see who is on the other side.

Speaking as he inspected prototypes in San Diego Tuesday, the President said: ‘I do have a preference.

‘The problem is, you have to have see-through. We have to have see-through (otherwise) we don’t know what is on the other side.’

He then asked a border guard about the importance of having a transparent border, before continuing: ‘If you don’t have some see-through capability it’s a problem.’

Trump also suggested x-ray technology could be used to help keep track of goings-on in Mexico.

But his unusual plans were roundly mocked online, with many claiming he was getting walls mixed up with fences.

Simon Byrd tweeted: ‘I want a see-through wall’ ‘You mean a FENCE?’

Benjamin Bryon Davis said ‘Pretty sure a ‘see-through wall’ is called a fence.

Doug Weaver wrote ‘Here’s my recommendation for wtf ever: listen carefully to POTUS explaining see-through technology.

‘I’ve never felt more safe.’

The President was shown optional wall types – and even mooted the possibility of using x-ray technology to see what is going on on the other side

And MaysLandingMel said: ‘If @realDonaldTrump puts up a see-through wall and someone on Mexico’s side cover’s it with paint, is it still a see-through wall?’

During the trip – his first to California since becoming President – Trump also claimed the State of California had been begging his administration to build walls.

He said: ‘The state of California is begging us to build walls in certain areas…and we said, no, we won’t do it until we build the whole wall.’

His visit also sparked mass protests across San Diego, which has a huge Latin American community.

Trump’s vow to build the wall was one of his key pre-election promises.

His wall inspection came hours after Trump fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Under-secretary Steven Goldstein was also axed after he revealed Tillerson had found out about his ousting on Twitter.
